Bearing in mind that Duran Duran have been doing rather well with their far more recent tour with class acts like Goldfrapp, I’m at a loss as to why I’m sitting here listening to a fairly unremarkable 1984 US/Canadian ‘event’. It might have sold over 2 million copies the first time around, but only a fool would buy this when it’s inevitable that these erstwhile bandana boys have already scheduled a ‘live’ release to coincide with their more recent rebirth and bring us bang up to date to with eqaually firecracker releases like ‘I Don’t Want Your Love’, ‘Notorious’, ‘Skin Trade’, ‘Electric Barbarella’ and ‘Ordinary World’ (even ‘White Lines’ good lordy).
Anyway, for the sake of posterity, if nothing else, here’s some consumate and faithful live versions of ‘Hungry Like The Wolf’, ‘Save A Prayer’, ‘Is There Something I Should Know?’ and ‘New Religion’, a studio version of ‘Wild Boys’ (?) as well as a couple of tracks not included on the album’s original release: ‘Girls On Film’ and ‘Rio’ – both taken from the same gig in Oakland, California.
There. Contractual obligation complete. It was a clumsy cash-in then. It’s a clumsy cash-in now.
