Viva – Lawler, Steve

Label: Ministry Of Sound

For a moment there I was almost hoodwinked into believing that Viva was an abbreviation of ‘Vegetarians International Voice for Animals’. But that’s bloody search-engines for you. Now I know it’s a different kettle of fish entirely. More bums than buns and more tits than tatties. Viva is one of the those Ibiza things. A sun, sea and shagging thing. I’d love to say I’ll see you there, but I’m much more likely to be tipping deckchairs in Cleethorpes this year, lathering on my sunscreen factor 30 and queuing up for ice-cream than I am languishing in foam parties and gracing wet t-shirts. I’m not a 24-hour party person by rule as it leaves little time for toast and Match of the Day highlights in my view. However, if they had a nice comfy sofa, a 28” wide-screen tv and a hands-on pop-up toaster I’d be laughing.

Ahead of a criss-crossing, zig-zagging, tiffin’ turning 30 date world tour this summer, (with a substantial stop-off in the Balearics) as well as his four special Viva parties at Pacha this year, Steve Lawler pulls together three discs of soundz for sizzling hot lovers on holiday.

‘Viva ‘is spread over three discs, defining Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3. The final disc (my personal fave) is all that languid, spoon-bending minimal stuff; stuff for the crazy ones, the rebels, the misfits, the roundheads, the troublemakers, the cheeky’uns, the daft buggers, the little rascals, the mischief-makers; zero gravity leftfield music from the likes of Mike Shannon, Closer Musik, Max Sedgley, Tube Tech, The Professionist, Vigo Monroe and Lostep.

Three discs, three different states of mind, three steps to Viva heaven.
