The Hidde Message – Da Vinci Vox

Label: Emi

‘It is simply the reflection of an era in continual mutation, where a number of ‘initiates’ have decided that the time has finally come awaken consciousness’. Bollocks, more like. I would be letting you down if I was to describe this release as anything other than a monstrous cash-in on Dan Brown’s equally spurious and ill-conceived book “The Da Vinci Code“ (now a full-on blockbuster Hollywood epic starring the affable Tom Hanks) and I would be disappointing you still if I was to ascribe any degree of relevance to the ludicrous conceits and pretences offered by it’s lofty enigmatic prose, its laughable trip-hop rhythms, its despicable prog-rock posturing and its hellish Gregorian chants. The “vox“ part of Da Vinci Vox likely comes from the inclusion of narration that is used as samples throughout the recording, loosely tying into “Da Vinci Code“ story, and its not pretty. Far from it. Think Malcolm McLaren’s lush, prodigious failure ‘Paris’ but without ‘Revenge Of The Flowers’ by way of consolation.

And remember Enigma’s ‘Sadeness’? Well it’s even worse than that.

The folly of renowned French producer Serge Mazeres, who imagined, composed, and directed the project, the record is said to include performances by well-known international artists (probably the likes of David Gilmour, Mark Knophler, Eric Clapton, Rick Wright and Vangelis) who wish to remain anonymous. And who could blame them.

Like the Celtic tracks. Detest the rest.
