Plug It In – Colour Climax

Label: Breakin Bread

Dirty, scratchy, funky, skunky hardcore courtesy of Breakin Bread, the Funk & Hip Hop collective, based in South London and specialists in the kind of funk and hip hop common to B-Boying, Turntablism, MCing and Graffiti. The label also hosts the clubnight at The Social in London’s West End.

Color Climax are Paul Toller and Steve Ashby who are based in Coventry. Steve plays the Hammond organ, who’s style is reminiscent of Alan Hawkshaw from the Mohawks “The Champ“ fame, and skills were recently featured on the Rob Life 7“ “The Great Rhythm Caper“ – also on the Breakin’ Bread label.

Paul Toller is a producer and one time member of UK Hip Hop outfit Unanimous Decision. He was also a member of B-Boy crew Floor Science and is a neurotic beats and funk collector. He is also a resident Breakin’ Bread DJ in London.

First emerging in 2000, the duo have released 7 inch singles to date and have just finished a support stint on DJ Format’s recent UK Tour.

Latin funk rhythms dominate the agenda, but there’s also no shortage of speaker blowing brass, jazz tempos and gruelling James Taylor Quartet guitar. Effortlessly recalls the sleazy, glitzy urban pornscapes of Roy Budd and the Get Carter era.

Ain’t no Dick Dagger’s Big Dick Dilemma but plenty of thrills, spills and Philadelphia fills.
